Testimonials Plugin for Headway

Testimonials Plugin Setup Guide

This is the setup guide for the Testimonials block. We’ve tried to make the block as easy to use as possible, but if you get stuck at any point, come back and reference this guide.

Adding Testimonials via Headway

As of version 2.0, the Testimonials block supports adding your content either via Headway or WordPress, via the included Custom Post Type. Be sure to check the videos, as that is the best way to see the block in action.

The Testimonials block has two ways to enter your content. Either via the block options in Headway, or via the built in Custom Post type, in WordPress.

For this tutorial, we’ll focus on the Headway Content entry method.

Add a new block instance

To get started, you’ll need to first drag a new instance of the Testimonials block, in the Headway Grid.

Once you’ve selected the Testimonials block type, the block options will be loaded in the block configuration panel.

The “Content Source” option in the Congigure Layout tab will be set to Headway by default.

When the Content Source is set to Headway, you will see a tab for Testimonials Content, which is where you’ll add your Testimonial items.

Before you start adding your Testimonials, set the number of Testimonial items to display. Once you’ve set the number of testimonials, a dialog will popup prompting you to Save and Reload.

Once the Headway admin has been reloaded, you can start adding your testimonials.

The options available for each Feature will be dependant on which elements you have enabled. For example, if no Testimonial Link is enabled, you won’t see the option.

Adding Testimonials via WordPress

WordPress Content

As of version 2.0, the Testimonials block now supports adding your content either via Headway or WordPress, via the included Custom Post Type. Be sure to check the videos, as that is the best way to see the block in action.

To get started, you need to first make sure your Testimonials block is updated to the latest version (v2+). Once you’re done upgrading, you’ll notice the new Testimonials links in the WordPress sidebar.

Testimonials can be organized using Categories and Tags. This helps you store all your Testimonials in one place, then abstract only the relevant items when needed. For example, showing only Customer testimonials, relating to a specific product.

Adding a Testimonial

To add a new Testimonial, simply click the “Add New” option, which will bring up the following screen:

Setting the Testimonial Image

The standard “Featured Image” is used for the Testimonial Image. Simply click “Set featured image” in the bottom right of the block and select the image you want to use. Be sure to click the “Use as featured image” in, rather than the “Insert into post” button.

Setup the block up in Headway

Now that you have added some testimonials, categories and tags, you can open the Headway Visual Editor on the Grid Mode, then add a new instance of the block. In the block options, you will see a new option for Content Source. Select WordPress content, then start adjusting the settings to get the structure you’re after.

In addition to the new Content Source option, we’ve added a bunch of filters, letting you display on the Testimonials that you want. All of the options are self explainitory, but feel free to give us a shout on the forum if you get stuck at any stage.

Add a readon link to the single view

In order to add a read more link to your testimonials, you need to add a tag to your Testimonial content. This uses the same method as normal WordPress posts. The read more text can be customized in the block settings in Headway.

Setup the testimonial single view

In order to display a single item view of your testimonials (ie, the full testimonial details page), you’ll need to add a new block instance on the Single > Testimonials layout in the left Layout Selector panel. Make sure you’re on the Grid mode.

The block will automatically detect that you’ve added it to the single view and adjust the view accordingly. Save the options and that’s it.
